Remember that Justin Bieber fantasy confession Tumblr a while ago? This whole Chris Brown apologism thing reminds me of that, and how so many of those ‘confessions’ were from teenage girls essentially imagining themselves being actually raped by Justin Bieber. The whole “Team Breezy” phenomenon seems pretty similar; ignorant expressions of support from girls who (presumably, based on their youth) have had no direct experience of sexual or physical abuse, but who have none the less experienced since childhood the constant drip-drip-drip that is the woman’s place to be subjugated and beaten by their men.
It’s a load of fucking bullshit, and it is a not an accident that this is the message being dumped into impressionable girls heads. I don’t believe that it is natural for adolescent girls to have sexual fantasies derived from the storyboards of violent pornography. I think there are people, record company execs, movie producers, TV schedulers, publishers, etc., who are purposely trying to implant in girls heads the idea that it is natural to be beaten and noble to tolerate it.
To those people: Just stop. Fucking stop.
